19th Century Scandinavian Folk Painted Blanket Chest
Description
A late 19th century Scandinavian blanket chest, hand-painted with traditional floral motifs in deep navy with red, cream, and green accents. Constructed of pine with simple plank joinery and iron strap hinges, this piece reflects the practical, rural craftsmanship of the period. The chest retains its original painted surface with visible age and wear adding to its character.
A faint handwritten inscription on the underside appears to include the owner's name and is dated 1878. The interior is clean and usable and includes later removable interior dividers for extra organization.
This is a highly decorative yet functional piece that works well at the end of a bed, as an entryway table, or as extra bedroom/living room storage.
